McKinnon Townhouses

The building references the domestic nature of the street, both in the scale of the architectural elements and materiality. Solid and transparent brickwork is used to integrate the public with the private, while a framework of horizontal and vertical bands is designed to express the two-storey nature of the townhouse. Above the first-floor masonry walls of the townhouses, the second-floor material has been selected to read separately and recessive to that of the townhouses below, while providing private balconies to residents on the top floor.

The buildings materials have been selected to compliment and enhance the surrounding context, while the textured masonry base and homogeneous cladding above provide a building that is richly dynamic in a modern vernacular.
