Murphy Grove

Completed March 2014, this development encompasses three, double-storey town houses.
The design vernacular echoes the landscape of the surrounding streetscape in a contemporary manner through both its form and materiality. The form is comprised of 3 pitched boxes, which reflect the series of gable ended roofs pervading the street. The roof forms are broken up by the garages which are single storey, dividing the mass and creating a sense of rhythm and articulation.

The material palette has also been selected to reflect the neighbourhood character through the use of lightweight timber, brick, render and sheet metal. The form is articulated through the use of such materials. Timber cladding wraps from the front facade of each unit along the northern wall and around the rear facade. Similarly, standing seam metal panels fold down from the pitched roof along the southern wall of the units. Along the base, a traditional green render provides a solid base for the units, blending in with the landscaping and providing a sense of contrast with the brick ‘boxes’ along the south of the property.

In order to maximise solar access to the properties, the units have been setback from the northern and southern boundaries. Living spaces on the ground floor are all located to the north and open out onto a secluded outdoor area.
